Exercise:
A ball is thrown from the roof of a building .m tall and lands .m from the base. What was the ball's initial speed?

Solution:
There is more than one solution to this problem. There is v_x v_y and coupled to them t to determine. Without loss of generality we set v_x to be the value of our choice. Deping on v_x we can calculate v_y and t. We could have taken any other variable to be set at the ning. If v_x is set the air-time is given by: t fracs_xv_x fracmv_x The vertical velocity obeys now the &mustbe fracg t^ + v_y t - h_ &mustbe frac-.metersquaredpersecondsquared leftfracmv_xright^ + v_y fracmv_x - -m Where we have to substitue v_x through the value of our choice.
